Dear members, dear participants

We are pleased to share with you the latest up-dates for the meetings of the World Council, starting with the up-dated 2021 Presidency report on UCLGMeets.
 
 
The #UCLGMeets week in a glimpse
 
Under the theme “Smart Cities and Territories, pillars of the Common Agenda”, the World Council will focus on facilitating discussions among the membership around the priorities of the UCLG policy strategy.
 
At this date, we have over 300 participants registered to the different sessions organized throughout the week, among whose more than 60 local and regional elected officials, and high-level representatives from the United Nations and the international community.
 
We are pleased to provide below more information on the policy debates that be held in conjunction with the Smart City Expo World Congress:

• Smart Cities and Territories, pillars of the Common Agenda, on 17 November.
• A Pact for the Future: Renewing the social contract for the great reset, with the UCLG UBUNTU Advisers, on 18 November.

The Forum of Regions is convening three meetings on the occasion of the World Council. You can find more information by clicking on the links below:

• Opening session and innovation panels, on 16 November
• Roadmap: strengthening the voice of regions, on 17 November
• High-level political dialogues and joint declaration, on 18 November

 
Finally, we are pleased to inform that two ceremonies will be held to deliver the International Award “UCLG – Mexico City – Culture 21”, before the World Council starts, and to deliver the IODP Distinction on “Best Practice in Citizen Participation”, during the World Council, on 17 November.

Executive Bureau and World Council
 
As has been the case in our last statutory meetings, the business sessions of the Executive Bureau and the World Council will start with a brief opening and will then be articulated in three segments, during which all the items will be presented and the synergies between our policy strategies will be highlighted.
 
Executive Bureau:
 

• 15:00-15:45 - Opening: Empowering the recovery
• 15:45-16:30 - First segment: Institutional matters
• 16:30-17:15 - Second segment: Strategic priorities for the Common Agenda. This segment will count on the participation of Mr. Navid Hanif, Director of Financing for Sustainable Development Office of UNDESA, and Ms Nadine Gasman, Co-chair of the Global Alliance for Care.
• 17:15-18:00 - Third segment: Reporting key mobilization and recommendations from the membership

 
World Council:
 

• 15:00-15:45 - Opening: Human rights and contribution of local and regional governments to the Common Agenda. The opening will count on the participation of Ms. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High-Commissioner for Human Rights.
• 15:45-16:30 - First segment: Institutional matters
• 16:30-17:15 - Second segment: Local and regional governments breaking through as one: The Common Agenda. This segment will count on the participation of Mr. Volker Türk, Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Coordination at the Executive Office of the UN Secretary General.
• 17:15-18:00 - Third segment: Statutory matters
