SDG survey
Dear members of the World Council,
As you know, since our membership agreed on the Bogotá Commitment in 2016, UCLG has undertaken a strategy to support the process of
localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the other agendas, adopted by the United Nations in 2015-2016.
The United Nations have been assessing, at the annual High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July, the progress made by member countries in the implementation of the SDGs. The 2018 HLPF is going to be a particularly important appointment for local and regional governments (LRGs) worldwide, since SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities is going to be assessed during the event.
As we did in 2017, UCLG wants to submit to the UN HLPF, this year too, a report on the role of local and regional governments in the localization of the SDGs, with a specific focus on SDG 11.
Consequently, we call on our regional sections, the national associations of local and regional governments and all our members, to contribute to the development of this report. We ask for your help to collect information from LRGs directly. For this purpose,
UCLG has prepared a Survey on Localization for UCLG local governments associations to fill in, share with their own membership and collect valuable feedback from LRGs all around the world.
All information, stories, experiences and practices from local and regional governments are essential to build a reliable and effective report on how the local and regional levels are contributing to the localization of the SDGs and the other global agendas.
This call is especially important for the
local authorities from the 48 countries that are going to report to the HLPF in 2018. A full list of countries by region is available below. However, we will appreciate feedbacks for all countries to help us prepare a more comprehensive report.
The report should be local and regional governments’ common contribution to the national, regional and global process. It aims to provide our constituency with a single voice to be heard, loud and clear, as LRGs everywhere continue to do – with their competences and initiatives, in close contact with their communities and territories – an incredible job for the achievement of these ambitious goals.
UCLG looks forward to your help and contributions to this initiative. We will appreciate if you can
send the filled-in survey back to UCLG before April 30, 2018, to the following address: gold@uclg.org.
Sincerely,
The UCLG World Secretariat
