Dear Members,

To achieve the target of The Race to Zero global campaign, the Cities Race to Zero (CRtZ) encourages cities to unite and demonstrate support for inclusive climate action in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

At COP27, a call to solve the climate crisis and transition to a just net-zero future was emphasized. COP27 was the avenue for the Race to Zero initiative to lay down its plan for 2023 “to accelerate delivery, transparently track progress, regionalize the campaign, and urge non-state actors to activate policy.” (Climate Champions, 2022)

As of August 2022, a total of 1,134 cities are committed to the campaign – 57 are in South Asia and 14 are in Southeast Asia. In line with delivering the pledges, a three-part webinar will be held to provide a light-touch assistance to CRtZ cities in the region to credibly contribute to decrease their fair share emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050 to keep the global temperature rise to 1.5˚C.
