Mobilisation towards the First UN-Habitat Assembly
28-29 May 2019, Nairobi

 
Dear colleagues, 


As you know UN Habitat will celebrate its first Universal Assembly from 27th to 31st May in Nairobi. The Assembly replaces the biannual Governing Council that is traditionally attended by our constituency. 
 
Given the important role that UN Habitat plays as a focal point in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and in dealing with urban and local government issues in the UN System, UCLG is closely following the preparations of the first Habitat Assembly and facilitating the Local and Regional Government delegation on behalf of the Global Taskforce. 
 
The theme of the Assembly is Better Quality of Life in Cities and Communities with the sub-theme of “Accelerated implementation of the New Urban Agenda towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”.   
Despite the busy year for the constituency, we hope to be able to mobilise a focused and targeted delegation to Nairobi especially on 28th and 29th May that will enable us to put forward our hopes for increased dialogue with national governments and the renewed UN-Habitat Governance System. 
 
Member-States have expressed interest in organising a specific Forum and dialogue with our constituency. In this light it will be important to count on the representation of the UCLG membership at least on 28th and 29th May. The attached programme provides an overview of activities.
 
We would be grateful if you could inform the World Secretariat about your availability by April 30 at the latest.
 
We remain at your full disposal to support with any questions or arrangements that you might require.
