2nd wave of the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”
Enabling dignity for all
Dear members,
In 2022, six cities - Barcelona, Grigny, Gwangju, Mexico City, Utrecht and Vienna - of the Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights (UCLG-CISDPDH) launched the Global Campaign “10, 100, 1000 Human Rights Cities and Territories by 2030”.
As part of activities of the Committee, the Campaign aims at gathering 1,000 Cities and Territories worldwide up to 2030, with a view to build an active community of Local Governments promoting and implementing human rights to ensure dignity for all.
In less than 6 months since its launch, the initiative gathered more than 120 Local and Regional Governments worldwide, whose representatives explicitly committed to human rights. Find out the first results of the Campaign here.
Cities and Territories are currently leveraging the Campaign to implement local activities on Human Rights; to foster international advocacy on specific themes related to human rights (right to water, violence against women, inclusive citizenship, right to housing etc.); or to outline commons frameworks on human rights at local level, by engaging the up-date process of the UCLG Global Charter-Agenda for Human Rights in the City.
One year after its launch, at the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Committee is launching a second wave of the Campaign. This will be an opportunity to recall the importance of human rights; while bolstering trust and solidarity in the human rights ecosystems through the voice of Local and Regional Governments.
