We are delighted to invite cities worldwide to participate in the 2nd cycle of the Global Award for Sustainable Development in Cities (Shanghai Award).

The Shanghai Award was established jointly by UN-Habitat and Shanghai Municipality in 2022. It aims to highlight the remarkable progress and achievements of cities in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level and to foster the sharing of best practices. The first cycle of the award was concluded in October 2023 with five cities receiving the award at the ceremony in Shanghai, China.
The general theme of Shanghai Award is "Building Sustainable Urban Future for All.” This year, cities that have made significant progress in delivering quality housing, empowering youth, promoting innovative development, and fostering climate resilience are encouraged to apply.
The second cycle of the award will be granted to five cities. An award ceremony will be held at a major international event this year (such as World Urban Forum or observance of World Cities Day). The winning cities will be presented with a plaque and a trophy and invited to share their experience and best practices through various channels, including in the relevant international event. |
